Specs: Windows 7
I got Hughes Net yesterday and wasnt home to ask the installer how to connect more than one computer to it. My brother asked and he said use a router. I have the Linksys WRT54G2 router. Could you please walk me through what I need to do so that I can have my home computer and my laptop both working with the Hughes Net Please! I can use my laptop as wireless once it is set up is this correct? My laptop uses Windows 7.

What kind of service is Hughes Net? Is it cable? DSL? What kind of modem did they install and what is it connected to at the moment?

If you have a direct connection from modem to a PC and that PC is getting internet then the first step to take is determine exactly the connection settings. I don't know whether the method is different in WIN7 as I use XP and in a commandprompt I run ipconfig /all to find out all the details of Gateway IP, & Subnet mask, DNS details etc.

Write all these down.

Then make connection from modem to router WAN port and from router LAN port to PC in order to configure the router.

Read the router manual to find out how to log into it's admin interface, and if it does not automatically detect the internet you may need to manually configure the settings according to what you wrote down earlier. Get a wired connection working first then look at the wireless configuration.
