I picked up a IBM Thinkpad lenovo T61 today and can't quite figure out this access connections software. It won't let me use windows wireless configuration software.

I can connect it to an open wifi but there is no wpa2 just wpa option in the access connections software.

It has XP SP3 and I downloaded the newest driver I could find for the Intel 4965AGN but still no wpa2 options.

I'm not really fond of all this thinkvantage software on it but never owned one so not sure if it's safe to remove it. It seems like a pain in the azz as you have to use the software to turn on the wifi radio etc.

Any suggestions besides downgrading my wireless security? I figured i'd let my daughter use this laptop.

See what others think but it looks to me like that Lenovo pre-dates WPA2. If so you either downgrade all your network or you don't use it online unless you can find a USB Wifi adapter for it.

If you do downgrade then use a long and complex passcode (you are allowed 63 mixed characters).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Turns out if I open ms services stop and disable the thinkvantage connections manager followed by uninstalling the wireless driver then reinstalling the new driver it will work fine. I'm finding other issues now it's online so I probably need to just do a wipe and reinstall.

I didn't really want to downgrade the wifi security as there are 3 game consoles, 3 cell phones, 2 tablets, a couple laptops, desktop computer, wireless printer, etc all to change. Man it's ridiculous how many wireless devices there are now lol.

Glad to hear you've made some progress and quite agree that downgrading is not a good idea unless essential.

Maybe we can help with your other issues and avoid the wipe unless the computer is badly messed up.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
