how do i fix outlook and router problem

March 30, 2011 at 11:09:34
Specs: Windows XP
I just installed this router and now i get outlook error message 0x800ccc0d on my desktop on incoming mail, saying the host 'pop3' could not be found. Bypassing the router and going straight to the desktop and it works fine. Is this a router configuration problem( i used the quick setup) or is this a config problem with my ISP.?

make sure you have port number 110 open on your router.

POP3 protocol uses port number 110 so if your router blocks it, it will prevent your mail access

Thanks for your help. I found the problem. The outgoing and incoming mail server names were different. The incoming was set as just'pop3' which wasn't a problem when I was going directly to my ISP. When I inserted the router in the sysytem 'pop3' as my incoming server wouldn't work.
