This depends on the Wireless Router, you are using.
Howto disable SSID broadcasting can be read in the routers manual.

I'm suing my County for Personal Injury and want to ensure there not spying on email comunications between me and my Attorney. The County recently hired an expert in Electronic Survielance and I'm concerned.

Ok, again, you have to go into the routers setup. Mostly you have to open your web browser and type in 192.168.1.1
Then you have to type in a username and a password, that you have to figure out in the routers manual. Username is normally admin, but default password differs (READ THE MANUAL).
The go to the wireless configuration page and switch off the SSID broadcasting.

But again, everything can be read in the routers manual!

You can also figure out the exact model on the label at the router itself.
Then go to the manufacturers homepage and download the routers manual, mostly as a PDF file.
Open that PDF file and read, what I suggested in Response #3.
