What are you running for a "server"?
What do you mean by "connect thru my server"? Internet access?
Why do you feel you need a server at home?

I have win 2003 server O/S
I'd like to have the computers connect similar to a work place.
this way everything can be backed up to one location in case of failure of other computers.
Also something to do in my spare time.
I have two nic cards on it.

✔ Best Answer
You don't need two nics just one
I would not recommend you using Active Directory. Just as a server with user data folders that can be backed up.
In this case its just like you were using a workstation as a server in a peer to peer network.

You create user accounts
You setup shares and assign users to them
Users can then map drives to the shares for easy access
