Hello, I hoping someone can help me. I rec'd a work configured lap-top to use at home. It is a IBM Thinkpad X40 with a Windows 7 software. I am not sure as to explain the issue because I know NOTHING about wireless connections or computers. I brought it home and have had success in installing and using a Linksys and Belkin free wireless connection in my apartment complex but all of a sudden I cannot get any coonections. I cannot even find Linksys, I have tried everything, moving it, changing and renewing the ip address and this morning I even restored to a point last year thinking that may work. I have nothing. I also use an iPod in my house and now that isnt connecting at ALL. Now today, I just noticed that the iPod and my Belkin 4g connections is now going to a comcast home page where it is asking for password/log-in.
I also looked online to see if I can find the answer and someone suggested I open my ip address page (192.168.1) and tis isnt opening at all, they said to change the radio or make sure I have it under WPA nit WEP but I cant even get the page open!
Please help .
Sorry but I do have some questions 1. Do you have internet service in your apartment? Is it Comcast?
2. If this is a work laptop and you were told to take it home (for what purpose?) how come no one in the office especially IT department briefed you with what you should know.

Thanks for the response, I dont have Comcast internet but I think one of my neighbors may have just gotten it becaise all of a sudden the site comes up. I always use free w-fi off whatever connection I can find. I brought my computer back to my job and my I.T. guy said it was my connection at home, that is basically sucks and there wasnt anything they can do. They connected there with the free wi-fi available at work so I know the lap-top is working.
Does this help?
So basically you are leeching off your neighbours and they've woken up to you and encrypted their wireless connections. Time for you to pay for your own internet.

I didn't even think of that but thanks Richard for putting it so gently.
