Home made NAS box suggestions

Specs: FreeNAS, 900 MHz / 512 MB
Not quite sure what catagory to put this in, ..........
I am thinking of building a NAS box, I have a P3 900MHz 512Mb MoBo, (BCM in810p).
I think it came out of an old IBM netvista machine.
I wish to run freeNas and was going to install a PCI SATA controller card to get my storage capacity. Tying it in would be a straight up 10/100 card.
Does anyone know if freeNas is compatable with this board? and will the board "see" the SATA drives on a controller card?
For example a(SIIG SC-SA0012-S1)2 port card or a(Silicon Image CL-SL3114)4 port card???
And if it will see the drives, what capacities will it see?????
Thanks a Lot J.

Most any PCI RAID controller will work with most any mobo. I'm not familiar with freenas but don't see why you'd need it. If you think of your homemade NAS as a file server (essentially it is), then the steps are: build your RAID, install your OS (XP) and then connect it to the network. Share the RAID'd volume(s) and there's your "NAS".

I am the captain of my soul.
