Hi ALL, Can any body tell me how to get the Computer name of any computer on the Network by using its MAC Address. I am really in need of it
My understanding of MAC address is it is a hardware identifyer for the network card that bears no direct relation to the host name of the system it services. Knowing the MAC addrsss gives you nothing unless you have an existing database listing the MACs for each client machine in the network. Of course if you are trying to identify a particular user in a large environment the simplest way would be to block the MAC and see whose head pops up to query their loss of connectivity. Use the "arp" command to get the IP address, then "dnslookup" or similar to get the hostname. This relies on the reverse-DNS zone being properly set up. Obviously this only works for hist on the same network as the computer making the query, but I guess you wouldn't know the MAC address if that were not the case.
Use this Trogon MAC Scanner to get ip/mac addresses and computer names, workgroups etc of all LAN computers: http://trogonsoftware.com/trogon-ma...
