Limited internet

A friend has a network with many, many computers, ipads etc. connected to it. She just had a higher speed (10m) internet connected to her network 2 days ago. She uses 4 different hubs to connect all hardware. When she had 3m speed before, everything worked ok. Now with the higher speed connection,, she can only have 2 hubs connected at a time. Sometimes she has internet available when 3 hubs and/or 4 hubs are connected, but only lasts for a short times, and then the entire network loses the internet. Has anyone had any experience with this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks,

✔ Best Answer
Switches are better than hubs.
Getting one or two modern switches would be better than running many hubs. If she has network runs between areas of the building/rooms and uses the hubs to branch it out to multiple machines, it is much better and faster if she has the space wired correctly so that each machine has its own run going back to a single switch near the router so that everyone gets full network speed and heavy network usage on one or two machines will not slow down an entire branch of the network.
That said, Have her try rebooting the router and hubs to see if that helps for the short term.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Considering it's not easy to find a "hub" these days I suspect the reference is just mistaken nomenclature.

I would suggest you get make/model info for each network appliance (switch/router etc) plugged into your friends network and share that with us. We can then look it up online to see what equipment we're working with. Once we know that, then we can probably ask more concise questions to help us troubleshoot this issue.

Rebooting everything seems to have solved the problem. Thanks, Fingers.
