file copy to windows server 2008

June 18, 2010 at 12:45:00
Specs: Windows NT 4.0
existing BAT file copies file from Win NT 4.0 PC to windows server 2008, appending .DAT extension as desired. File arrives at destination, file size shown is consistent with expected file content, but when opened w/Notepad - is blank. Manual copy (drag & drop) from win nt pc to same destination yields same file size and it's populated. Not sure why BAT file copy is delivering blank file ??? BAT copy previously woked ok to win 2000 server destination

check the accounts rights on the distination folder. In other words the bat file runs under an account on the NT server. This account has to also exist on the 2008 server and have permissions to write the file.

Did check that before posting and account that is running the BAT (from wthtin a proprietary software pkg) does have appropriate permissions on destination folder on WIn2008 server. Have also tried changing the 'copy to' destination in BAT file to another shared drive location on a Win2003 server but then file did not copy at all, whereas, present 'copy to' location does produce the file, whose file size is accurate, but contents are a blank page...have also tried dos cmd line type [filename].DAT, it also comes up blank...yet, when I manually copy the file to that location (drag & drop) it's fine...baffling....tx for the reply
