Hi guys

ok am just about to throw the towel in with this one!

what seems so simple is not.

I have three new laptops,im trying to set up a dead simple AD-HOC network,i have done so but i simply cant ping or see the other other client laptops, here are some steps ive done
tried DCHP and assigning static IPs on all 3 laptops, set network discovery to on on all laptops, set network to both private and public.also workgroup is the same and they all have unique names.

so i can connect to the network on all three laptops but no luck at all while trying to ping or view other laptops, all laptops are virus/spyware free.

would love to hear from anyone who knows something i dont.

thanks all

check list

file and printer sharing enabled
share something
shares set to everyone full control [you can change this later once you have networking up]
network access and sharing enabled in the windows firewall
allow icmp [ping] in the windows firewall
in tcp/ip properties just assign static ip addresses with no gateway.
in tcp/ip properties/wins tab make sure netbios over tcp/ip is enabled. This is what makes computers show up on the workgroup.
Enable the guest account on all with no password required or create all users with matching names/passwords on all computers.

Take a look at the event logs.
Are there any errors that might show you the right direction?

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

Have you disabled the firewall on all 3 laptops?

If not, do so and then try pinging.

You tried all that and can't ping?

Do you have good physical connections? ie. green lights on both the nic and the switch?
can you ping the ip you assigned to the pc from itself?

how about posting an ipconfig /all from each machine for review
