Specs: Windows XP
everything up and running on my computer/BUT it won't connect to internet/ message comes saying can't detect an Ethernet port, WHY?

I changed server from BT to TalkTalk/set everything up ok ,when I put in disk it came back ,can't detect Ethernet port, I can get connected through wireless but not Ethernet cable.OK with laptop

1. what disk are you talking about?
2. what is the status of your network card in the device manager?

disk was a step by step set up for Talk-Talk as for status of network card in device manager/ sorry I am lost

Ok, so what now?
You first need to check the status of the network card in the device manager itself.
Therefore:
1. rightclick Start / Run
2. type in devmgmt.msc and click ok
3. now you should see the status of the network card. If not, click the plus sign infront of the network adapters and check, whether there is a yellow or a red marker on it.

Post back the result.

there is no red or yellow markings network adapter reads NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, is this what your asking for
