EnGenius M5000 AP - Power on but no signal

April 12, 2011 at 21:12:36
Specs: Windows XP
I connected an EnGenius M5000 AP/Bridge to a switch, a Modem (VSAT) is also connect to the switch and aslo my Desktop standalone PC. All instructions were followed to install the EnGenius M5000. However, only the Power,Lan, and Wan light indicators are on but the Link/Signal indicators - red, yellow and green are not coming on.

I tried pinging according to the default IP address, but still there was no responds. Even I tried resetting it on the firmware, but it can not ping.

Please, help me solve this problem.

You need a router before your switch. Switches only work at layer 2.

Switches only work at layer 2.

Except of course for layer 3 switches, and there are many of those out there.

While incorrect about switches only working on layer 2, ace is correct about the following:

You need a router before your switch

I would highly recommend you buy a SOHO Router and connect your highspeed modem to it's WAN port and your switch to a LAN port. Then I would give your EnGenius an IP in the same subnet that isn't in the DHCP Scope.

SOHO Router LAN port:

DHCP Enabled = Yes
DHCP Scope = to

IP: 1921.68.1.10
Default Gateway:

One of the added advantages of having everything behind the router is that the router also has as firewall which will help to prevent intrusion into your LAN from outside thus protecting you and your equipment.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
