dsl 2640b does not port forward FTP request

November 29, 2010 at 09:08:25
Specs: Windows XP, 2GB
hello
I have this line

FTP 21 21 TCP 21 21 192.168.1.150

on the DSL-2640B for port forwarding and the router is still not forwarding to the FTP server serv-u administrator in the corresponding computer with internal ip 192.168.1.150
Firewalls are not enabled in the computer 192.168.1.150 either in win xp or in the Eset antivirus which is currently installed.
So, I do not know what the problem might be.
I do want to use ftp from the internet to connect to the PC 192.168.1.150
What I know is that the FTP server is working locally if i do ftp 192.168.1.150 but it is not working when I use the router's static ip address.
Any idea?
Thanks

"not working when I use the router's static ip address"

lan or wan ip?
testing is from inside or outside of the network?

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

Do an online portscan to check, whether the port 21 is open at your WAN (Internet) side.

testing both from the inside and the outside of the LAN with the WAN ip address of the LAN's router without success so far. There is no response even though i have tested the ftp server and it works with an internal ip address. any ideas?

There was no problem. The problem is that i was tring to ftp the router's external wan ip address from inside of the LAN and that's why it failed.
Now i tested it from the outside and it worked fine.
Thanks

Yepp, there is mostly no loopback for the WAN ip address of the router and therefore, access from inside the LAN to the external ip address fails.
