Dropouts with road runner

June 18, 2011 at 13:13:59
Specs: Windows 7
It was fine all winter. The summer before we had SEVERE problems with it. Nearly every day it would have dropouts 5 seconds each. Made it impossible to use. The winter, it was perfect. Now it's summer again and it's doing the same thing.

Any ideas?

The router / modem. Where is it located?
Heat build up can cause all kinds of errors in communication devices.
Roadrunner should be able to test their system to locate the problem device. What do they say when it is having issues?

Not only heat, but humidity can also be a factor (always higher in summer). If you continue to have problems, have RR do a test (as mentioned before). It's their responsibility up to the point of your modem.

The modem is on the shelf above my monitor and my router is right next to my monitor.

What do you mean they say? Who? I haven't called road runner.

Oh, and we have an air conditioner so it's never hot in here.

"Who? I haven't called road runner."

Then it's time you did. There's little we can do here to diagnose individual router/modem problems. The first thing they should do is check your connections from the main cable line to your router/modem. An intermittent connection on the line would cause the problems you're experiencing.
