DNS fails for microsoft.com

Specs: Windows XP
I'm really banging my head against the wall.

First off, this problem is only on this local XPSP2 workstation. I cannot access microsoft.com. As far as I can tell, all other domains work.

I can nslookup microsoft.com, which gives me,

But pings to these addresses fail, and the command "ping microsoft.com" fails to return an IP. Trying to load the site in a browser yields a DNS failure.

I've tried the local DNS servers here, as well as OpenDNS and Google.

I've emptied the hosts file, as well as tried statically mapping the above IPs in the hosts file, but neither approach has worked.

I've tried that Winsock XP fix. The system IS reading the hosts file, I tested with mapping a gibberish domain to Google's IP and it worked fine. Also, when configured for OpenDNS, I got OpenDNS error pages. Curiously, when using OpenDNS, which will return pings from nonexistent domains, I still got the same domain error on a ping to microsoft.com. (Ping request could not find host microsoft.com. Please check the name and try again.)

Any help would be fanatically appreciated.

There is no software firewall that I'm aware of, other than the Windows firewall. Disabling that made no difference.
