Solved D-Link DSL-2640 Wireless Router WLAN LED not coming on

January 28, 2014 at 03:26:45
Specs: Windows Vista
The WLAN light has stopped showing on the router.
This means the laptop cannot be used wirelessly.
However, the laptop will work when wired.
Any ideas please why the light is not showing?

Presumably it did work previously?

Have you gone into the router config/mangement areas to see if wifi has somehow been turned off?

is where you go to access the management etc. and the login/password is admin/ admin

This is where to find/download the manual:

Page 27 is the start of the configuration details - so after a quick browse of the earlier pages… perhaps work your way through from there?

When you do get it working again - pay close heed/attention the issue of security. At the least set a password to restrict access to wifi; and ideally change it from whatever the default already suggested (in the manual?) may be. Keep a note of the password - in more than one place. I often email it to myself (in a rather vague way…) so as to have it saved somewhere off my systems entirely; also make a hard copy and stored safe (where I can remember and find it - with other similar "stuff"…); and also as a file on some external storage device(s). That way one has it if the need arises. Pasting it on the base of the modem is often OK too - as long as you and your friends/family are the only folks likely to ever go near the router?
