Destination host unreachable - among others

September 28, 2011 at 09:29:51
Specs: Windows xp sp3, pentium 1.6/2g
destination host unreachable xp sp3

i had some kind of virus and installed every spyware, malware, antivurs remover to get rid of it. I already had some on there but the virus attacked them and made them not useful. when i updated my avg the virus got loose.

i had wireless internet access the whole time but something i did must have messed it up. im on another laptop which is working fine so its not the router. internet doesnt work when i plug in ethernet either.

i tried a bunch of commands /flushdns. reset winsock or whatever (dont really know what im doing i just google and do what they say) ipconfig renew, release. some netsh commands. nothing works. system restore doesnt work either.

reinstalled network adpater driver. didnt work. my windows firewall says my firewall is off. i only use windows firewall i dont have a separate one to shut off. i cant turn on the windows firewall either. i try to but i get an error message. i currently have avg, avast and avira on my machine. i know im not supposed to but the virus attacked avg and wouldnt work. downloaded avast and attacked that and finally got it (i think) with avira. i did disable all of them to see if i can repair my wireless connection but it just says acquiring network address forever.

if i knew how to copy paste from the cmd prompt i would paste my ipconfig /all here.

what i can tell u is my ip is 0.0.0.0 same for subnet.
default gateway has no ip. dhcp server looks ok with 192.168.1.1 and dns servers look alright.

any advice? ill do anything other than reinstalling my OS. i dont think i have any of the disks either but i can download anything online on this computer and then transfer.

PS I also did something I saw online to look in device manager or something like that to see if dns was started and a bunch of other things and to see if they are on automatic or manual and which ones where failing and what their dependencies were. all dependencies seemed to point to tcp/ip and a couple i saw said something about ipsec.

0.0.0.0 is a broadcast for an IP address. In your case you are not getting an ip address.
Can you ping 127.0.0.1 ?

For info on how to copy/paste from a command prompt window click on my name above and read my "how-to" guide titled, "Post the output of ipconfig (version 2)"

I am the captain of my soul.
