Specs: XP, ??
Hi guys

Newbie advise needed.

I have a 1.5tb external hard drive currently attached to my PC via USB. In order to stream my music, pics etc to my PS3, IPOD's, IPADS, etc I need to have my PC running.

Is there a way I can send the contents of the hard drive around my home network without usung the PC.

I am looking to do this on budget & therefore don't partically want to buy a NAS Hard Drive.

My modem does does not a USB input so cant plug HD directly into there.

Any advise greatly received

Unless you have a spare PC which you could turn into a NAS you are going to have to purchase a NAS enclosure, or a media streamer, of some sort.

Hi super saint,

I would suggest you to use a NAS adapter that may help you convert the external hard drive into a NAS.

I would have to agree with ijack.

If you don't have a spare PC, spend the money and buy a NAS enclosure that provides redundancy by utilizing RAID technology and two or more hard drives.

I have a small 2 drive NAS at home that is running the two hdd's in a RAID 1 configuration. Should one of my two drives fail, I simply replace it, tell the RAID to rebuild and I never lose a beat, or any data. If you can afford it, a NAS device, or a PS with a RAID capable controller is your best bet.
