connecting gbit router and internet modem

Draytek / Vigor2800

Specs: Windows XP
Hello everyone,

At the moment I have my home network running through my modem which has a 4 port hub and wireless as well as my internet.

Im looking to put a gigabit router in for the comptuers and ps3 to talk with becuase I want to get a NAS instead of use my main comp.

How would I go about hooking them together so the internet works through it all and the wireless as well, but also the gigabit between comptuers?

Can I just have it in the system and have it set to look at my modem for the DHCP and stuff like that?

Thanks in advance.

Is this one device? A combination modem/router/wireless access point?

If yes, do please give us the make/model.

If your "hub" is actually a combo modem/router/AP then it would make more sense to buy a Gigabit switch and plug it into one of the LAN ports on the router. Then plug all gigabit clients into the switch....including your NAS device.

How would I go about hooking them together so the internet works through it all and the wireless as well, but also the gigabit between comptuers?

As per what I've already said, it would look as follows (again, assuming you have a combo unit)

Internet >> Router >> Gig Switch >> Clients/NAS

This gives all clients gigabit bandwidth and internet connectivity. Since the router contains the wireless and DHCP those will also work properly.

Thanks.

Yeah its all in one, its a DrayTek Vigor2800.

My plan was to just get a gigabit router and hook it in the system, but what settings would need changing or is it all pretty straight forward?

Thanks again,
Blackman
