I have cable internet, hardwired, the modem is running through a 4 port router. I want to connect a wireless Cisco Valet router so I can use my laptop wirelessly (sp). When I had DSL, I just connected the Valet to the router with a ethernet cable and had no problems. I connect to the router now which is being supplied by the cable modem and I cannot get the wireless to work through there.

What am I missing or is this not possible?

odds are you need to correct your ip addressing.
if the cable router has and so does your valet no routing/internet can take place on the valet.

connect to the cable router. what is your ip address?
connect to the valet. what is your ip address?
if both are the same except for the last octet then you need to change the ip on the valet like so
if 192.168.0.x
change to
