Connect to Modem Through Broadband

April 29, 2010 at 12:16:14
Specs: Windows Vista
I am looking to remotely connect to a Trane Tracker (building management system) in a rental building through the internet. Here is my problem: My Trane Tracker only has a modem with a dedicated analog phone line, but my office (which is not located in this building) has PBX digital phones so I am unable to connect. Is there a way to connect to a modem through the internet? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Is the Trane Tracker PC on a LAN?

No, the Trane Tracker is essentially a thermostat with a modem that is connected to a dedicated phone line. There is no possiblity for a LAN/Ethernet connection

You can put an analog card in your pbx which will give you analog phone line access. Or just get a analog line wired to your office.

I take it there is no software or online service that would allow this to work other than installing a new analog phone line? Would a virtual modem work?

Not that I know of.

We have analog cards in our PBX here at work in order to provide lines for fax and modem (we still have a few people using those for various purposes up to and including our Telecom technician so she can dialin to her PBX........lol.

I would compare prices (analog card vs getting the telco to set you up with an analog line) and I would go with whichever is going to be the most cost effective.

Would a virtual modem work?

I highly doubt it. Virtual or otherwise, as far as I know a modem requires an analog line.......period, full stop.

Didn't get that.
What's about calling the analog modem from external.
So if you use your digital phone line to dial the external number of the analog modem, what happens?

The original poster should always write the last response !!!
Let us know, if the problem is solved !!!
