Specs: Windows XP, 1024
Broadband connection is very slow and goes dormant even when moving mouse on web page to try to initiate applets. Computer locks or freezes constantly in between pages or when trying to open other pages on websites. Takes really long to try to do anything on computer when online.

Start by scanning for both viruses and malware. If you don't have an antivirus program installed on your PC use an online scanner. I like the Trend Micro online antivirus scanner.

Then, install, update and run Malwarebytes antimalware and see if your computer's performance doesn't improve.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

Yea , I also think its in the PC , not the Internet connection.
You can take a speed test, but your PC files are your most likely culprit.

If you don't have the tools to help optimize & clean the system , try to download & install these "FREE" utilities.

Glary Utilities

When using Glary utilities, Don't use anything under In "Privacy & Security" until you read things carefully. You can delete something forever very easy.

Avast Antivirus will run out in 30 days unless you register it "For Free" ( use any name & email)

As Curt R said, Malwarebytes is good , but I have it & I haven't found anything that Avast hasn't found first

I primarily use Auslogics Bootspeed & Avast.

15 day trial Auslogics Bootspeed
( make sure to UNCHECK any programs that may try to install with it, if there is any , like a tool bar or browser)
