Clients seen on hub but not on switch

Specs: Windows, Intel 256MB/128MB
We have a LAN with clients connecting to a server over a hub. This setup is working fine.

We tried to replace the Hub with a switch. The clients are not able to see/ping the server and vice versa.

Details here :
Client Operating System : Windows 98 / Windows 2000 Professional
NetBEUI enabled in Network Properties. TCP/IP also enabled.
The server and all clients have Static IPs.

Server Operating System : Windows 2000 Advanced Server

No. of clients : 4

Hub Model : 3Com Hub 8/TPO 3C16700 (8 port)

Network is working fine with the hub.

Switch Model : D-Link 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch DES-1008D (8 port)

Server Network Adapter : Intel PRO 100.

How are the clients assigned their TCP/IP settings?

Are the clients able to ping each other? If not, you'll need to open a command prompt window on each and run the following command:

ipconfig /all

Compare the output. The only thing that should be different is the actual IP address.

Is this a domain or a workgroup? If a workgroup, are all clients configured with the same workgroup name?

everything works as is with static assigned ips.

with the switch hooked up could the clients ping each other? You already stated they could not see the server. Compatibility could just be between the server and the switch.

Only reasons I can think the switch does not work is as follows;
1. bad/defective switch
2. pc/server nics are set to 10mb half duplex manually [not set to auto] and the switch does not support that
3. wiring does not support 100mb
