I guess you meant the Power LED, which is usual green, isn't lit.
Is there any LED on the router that is lit?
Maybe the power supply of the router is fried.

Power light is green, and the lights are lit on teh ports with something plugged into them. The diagnostic light is off, and it's usually green.

Did you get any ip address on a pc or laptop, connected to the router?
You can check this at the command prompt by typing:
ipconfig /all
A valid ip address must not be 169.254.x.x

Was this after a firmware update attempt? What caused you to set back to factory defaults? How old is the router?

FWIW, on every router I've reset, you have to have the router on and press and hold the reset button for about 5 to 10 seconds in order to reset it to factory defaults. You don't just press and release the button.

I can't get a valid IP address, it's almost as if the router isn't there. I do get that unidentified network / limited connectivity alert. But that's as far as it goes. I never get an ip address or the default gateway when I type ipconfig.

I didnt update firmware. This happened immediately after the cable company sent a surge that made all the cable boxes pop & even knocked out my computer. The computer is fine (I can connect to the internet, so i know ethernet is working). But after that, the router went bricky on me. I tried reseting it, hoping it would knock out whatever kink is in there.

I've held the button in for 10 seconds, up to a minute. Still, nothing is responding.

To me this says your router is dead and you need to buy a replacement. It's very likely that the surge fried it.
