August 24, 2010 at 20:41:35
Specs: windows xp
reinstalled xp and everything was erased..now wireless connections don't show up at all. before, i was connecting to a neighbors unsecured wireless connection. i was told that because i lost everything i probably lost my drivers. assuming i have nothing and no wireless connections are showing up, what do i need to do, step by step, to get connected on the internet again? please use non-tech speak, i know very little about computers. any help would be appeciated, thanks.

What kind of computer are we talking about, stational computer or laptop?

You have to go to the manufacturers homepage and download the drivers for your hardware like:
- Chipset
- Audio
- Video (graphics card)
- Network (network card)

These drivers have to be installed first.
After that, windows should find all your internal devices and you should see your network card, listed in the device manager as well as in the My Network Places.
Then you can configure your network connection.

You can download the drivers on another PC and either burn them on CD or copy them to a USB Stick.

At the laptop, you may first have to extract the files.
After that you should have EXE files. These are executable files, that will install the drivers onto your laptop.
