cant connect to the internet after fresh inst

Specs: Linux i686
i did a reinstall of linux instead of windows then when i switched back to windows i could not connect to the internet. the network adapter is missing in windows. now linux connects and windows dont so i have both os running on the same partition. before that i was using utorrent and my hard drive got full and i might have gotten a virus.

Are you sure about that. In normal circumstances that would be impossible. However if by some miracle you have managed to put put both operating systems in the same partition, the one that was already there is well and truly screwed.

I would reinstall both operating systems in separate partitions and start again. Having two operating systems in the same partition is going to cause you no end of problems.

i now just have windows installed and i put the nic drivers in but still wont connect.

It won't connect doesn't give any one much to go on.

What is plugged into the NIC, a Modem, a router or something else.

Does everything look right in device manager?

Got to command prompt and type ipconfig /all and post the results.

i am using a att 2 wire router. there are 4 things with ?! on it multimedia audio controller, other pci device. sm bus controller, video controller (vga compatible)
when i type ip config nothing comes up. im using a e machines 3118.

It is ipconfig, not ip config. No space.

I would get the other driver sorted first before you go any further, especially the video driver and the SM bus controller. Until you get them sorted you are going to be chasing yourself round in ever decreasing circles.

Did you install the chip-set driver for the motherboard. You can get them from the manufacturer here.

sorry i typed ipconfig /all and it nothing came up. the router is 2 wire gateway
model number rg2701hg-00.i havent installed the chip set driver. yet..
