Can't access web server

January 4, 2010 at 14:46:30
Specs: Windows 7, 2/2
I have my apache webserver set up on my computer. I can access it fine from the browser my visiting http://localhost:8080 and http://192.168.1.xxx:8080. However I can't access it from http://my.wan.ip.address:8080/ (my ip address as determined by whatismyip.com). I have a router, and I went into the port forwarding settings and I have forwarded port 8080 to 192.168.1.xxx but still can't access it. I have Windows 7. I added an exception for port 8080 to my firewall. Using canyouseeme.org I can see that port 8080 is not able to be connected to. What's going on?

Most soho routers do not support doing a loopback which is what you are asking your router to do.

Think about it for a minute. How is your request going to pass thru the routers wan port, turn around and then back in?

What was the error? Have them do a tracert to your wan ip to make sure nothing else is going on.

It would appear you have the listening port working since you an access it locally. Though you should do it local and not specify the port to see what happens.

To router forward you need;
static ip on the web server
port forward 8080/TCP to that internal static ip
then access externally as you have tried with the wan ip and port number.

https and remote router/equipment management is usually set to 8080 also. Glad you worked it out.
