Solved can't access shared folders

January 6, 2012 at 06:04:30
Specs: Windows XP
I've networked 2 PCs both on xp, one home one pro, through the router/modem. I get an error message saying contact your system admin when I try to read shared folders on the home from the pro version - I am the admin! The other way works fine.

Thanks for any help, it's driving me mad :)

share permissions on xp home - should be set to everyone with full control

make sure Home's firewall allows file and printer sharing

Check all firewall settings. Disable them for testing purposes.

Thanks, I assumed when I selected 'share folders' windows would sort it!!!!

I can now see documents on both, but none of the drives or programs are available. I'm getting the error message "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'shortcut to xxxxx' refers to is unavailable. Make sure it is available and try again'

The shortcut concerned is to a usb drive which was dragged to the shared docs folder.

You either have to reset your permissions or use remote desktop to run programs.
