Can't access network share

Microsoft Windows 2003 server - 5 users

Specs: Windows Server 2003

We have a windows2003 domain server running active directory and a SAN connected to it with some file shares. In our office, most PC's are a member of the the domain, but some PC's are not, but they still access the shares with domain users.

Recently, the SAN completely stopped working, so as a temporary measure, I have unplugged it, copyied the backup to a spare drive on the domain controller itself, and resetup the shares with the same names as they used to exist on the SAN.

The problem is, that the PC's that are part of the domain, cannot see any shares on the DC! \\servername\sharenames gives the error "domain is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network service". I've checked permissions etc, and they are all OK. The PC's that are not part of the domain, can see the new shares just fine using the above path!

Further, if I access the shares from any PC's in the domain with the IP address (\\xx.xx.xx.xx\sharename), or fully qualified domain name (\\servername.serverdomain\sharename), then the shares can be accessed fine.

I feel that perhaps something needs to be refreshed or kicked in the head! I've restart everything, removed teh PC from teh domain, and re-joined the domain, changed passwords, etc, but nothing has changed.

Does anyone have any clues?

the shares have full permission for everyone.

I restrict permission in the sub folders of the share with normal security settings.

Since my last post, I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling windows file and print sharing, without success.

I still cannot solve this problem ;-)

Something extra I've discovered...

If I login to one of the PC's which are a member of the domain, using a 'local' account, then I can browse the domain shares and access them just fine (it prompts for a username/password when I click on share, but lets me in with the correct details entered)

However, if I logout and log back in as a domain user (using the exact username/password as above), then I can no longer browse the domain for has the error

cannot find path...blah..blah, you cannot access this service...blah blah...The server is not configured for transactions.

Then if I type the share name in directly, it says that the path doesn't exist.
