I am trying to connect computers, so that i can file transfer, I am using one laptop w Windows 7 and one w Windows vista. I can connect both computers to the internet, but when I go to the "Networks" folder on my pc, even though I can see the computer running Vista I cannot open it to transfer files. I know at one time I set up security features on the one w Vista so that no one could get into my computer, but that was a long time ago and I can't remember what I did. Can you help me figure out what I'm missing? FYI if I go to the "Networks" folder on the one with vista, I can see and open the pc running Windows 7 so, Im confident it's a security issue and I just can't find out how to change it.

On Vista.. Check the settings in Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings.

Make sure network discovery and file and print sharing is enabled.

Well, Thanks to you! Um, your suggestion didn't work for me, because I actually had already taken that step, and they were enabled. However, when I went to type you a response, as I was typing, I realized that I had also enabled Password protected sharing, which when enabled makes it impossible to connect from another computer. Hope this helps some poor soul who mistakenly turns the Password Protected sharing on in the future!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to all, and again, thank you for forcing me to see what was right in front of my face! ;)
