Specs: Windows XP
Have an old Hp Compaq dc7700 convertiable minitower PC that use to be connected to a network. How can you get access to system if it keeps asking you to input the password. And would not let you make changes in the startup f9 or f10.

Connected to a network I take to mean joined to a domain.

If you don't know the administrator password or can't get logged on you will need to reinstall the OS from scratch to then use the pc.

Can you ask the folks that previously had this computer for account/password?

f9 f10 have nothing to do with gaining access to the OS.

If you are at the log on screen, click on the drop down box that that says the domain name and click on the one that says "computer name here (this computer)." the text that says "computer name here" will be what ever the computers name is.

Once you change to that, you will need to change the username to "Administrator" and then enter the administrator password for the computer.

You then can right click on "My Computer" and click on properties, go the the "computer name" tab, click on the "change" button then click inside the circle for workgroup instead of domain. You then can click on Ok. You will have to restart the computer and you have the normal XP logon screen instead of the network log on screen.
