Can you expand a NAS Drive to one with more bays?

Specs: Macintosh
I have a US Robotics 8700 NAS (4 bay). I have it running Raid 5. Question is: I'd like to buy a bigger shell with more bays to expand the drives. Can I do this easily? Is it hot swappable? If I put the 4 bays in say an 8 drive array, can I add additional drives and will the existing drives work in a different NAS ?

Any insight is appreciated!

I'd very much doubt that this would work with another manufacturer's equipment without losing existing data. If US Robotics make an 8-bay enclosure then I guess it's a possibility, although unlikely. The obvious way to find out for sure is to ask the manufacturer.

I have to agree wtih ijack. I doubt you could do what you're asking.

What you may have to do is, buy the new NAS and copy the data from the old NAS to the new once you've set the new one up.
