Microsoft Windows 7 home premium

Specs: Windows XP
Built another computer. partitioned HD into windows and Linux, currently using it under linux for self. I am trying to decide if I will use it to replace my aging 'family computer' with it and load a version of windows in the place I left for it. Most computers in home are XP on a wired network. Choice: XP Pro or Windows 7 (pro or home prem)? So far, everything I read says that windows 7 will only network with other windows 7 computers (except pro in a server network) .... Does anyone have any experience with adding a windows 7 computer to an existing XP home network? or creating one with windows 7 and adding XP computers to it? And which version Pro or Home Prem?

Its the Windows 7 Home Group that is not backwards compatible. Work Groups still works fine.....

I believe you misunderstood what you read. The Windows 7 Homegroup is not xp compatable but you can still do regular workgroup networking which does work with xp.

Perhaps this will help

That's great. thanks. Now I still have to make a decision on which to use, but the information will greatly help.
Oh yea, is there any reason to use 7Pro over 7 Home Prem. under these conditions?
