Specs: Windows 7
I'm not an expert with this sort of stuff but normally i just put the power cord in and insert the ethernet cable, i've just come back off holiday and when i insert the power cord, "ready" flicks once for half a second and then "sync" starts flashing and ready doesn't move, is it broke?

That would seem likely. I'd contact your ISP at this point.

Ummm...........just out of curiosity...........why do you shut your modem off?

If you have a SOHO Router between it and your LAN, that will protect your LAN from intrusion. Or, if you're like me, your ISP gave you a combo unit that is a modem, SOHO Router and wireless access point all in one. In my case, my modem is it's own protection (mind you, I still have a UNIX based firewall/router between that unit and the rest of my LAN, but I am a computer geek by trade right......lol)

Typically, the ISP support people should be able to remotely check your modem.......while it's turned on of course.......lol ;)

I'm surprised they're sending someone out without having done that first.
