Best way to move files to a new file server

January 18, 2011 at 08:43:33
Specs: Windows 7
I have three pier to pier computers (two Win 7, one XP). I have a new server on the way (HP Mediasmart EX495 with Window Home Server). What is the best way to gather all the files from the three machines and move them to the server and eliminate dedundancy? Is there an efficient and recommended procedure, or should I just block out a few days and hunker down for the big task...

You could use MS synctoy to sort all the files among the three PCs. Then just transfer the files from one of them. Synctoy would put all files on each of the PCs.

That might work. Does it offer an option to synch to just one of the three computers? I don't think I have enough room on all three for them all to have a copy. Thanks.

You sync two folders at a time. You can transfer everything to one PC & do all the work there, if there is a space problem.
