Belkin F6D4230-4 router not recognizing Ericsson modem

October 11, 2012 at 07:02:40
Specs: Windows 7
My main networking device is the Ericsson T073G HGU ONT, and when I am connecting to the network through the Ethernet there are no problems.

However when I connect my Belkin F6D4230-4 router to it (through cable) my router cannot recognize the modem.

I have tried literally everything.

Can you help me to set it up?

You should probably contact Belkin's support line and talk to their support people about this.

I am sure for 50 minutes they will ask me to turn off the router for N seconds, then turn on, then turnoff the modem then ... etc, so I am looking for really professional responses, not the FOR DUMMIES ones

Other than the same basic troubleshooting steps the belkin support guys would get you to do, and assuming from your response you've done them already, the only things I can think of to try are:

- Contact your ISP and get them to remote into the modem and confirm it's ok.

- Get your hands on another router to use as a test, Connect it to your modem and If it works, then chances are your router is having a hardware issue and needs to be replaced. This will also confirm that the modem itself is working properly.

- Also, you can connect your router to someone elses modem. If it works with a different modem, and your modem works with a different router, then the issue may be one of "lack of interoperability" between the two devices.

one question, how is it possible that my unit has a more recent firmware than the Belkin site has? (F6D4230-4_WW_1.00.06 on my device, but the site has the 5-th version)
what you think, can I downgrade somehow?

I have no idea why the newest firmware would be on the device but not available no the website so I can't guess.

I would never advise anyone to downgrade firmware. Typically newer versions fix issues that arose in previous versions.

Try the tests I recommended to ascertain if either the modem or the router is having hardware issues before doing anything else. It may be you have a bad device.

Actually I know that this my ISP is having some kind of problem. It is like the only normal internet provider in my region, but a s---ty one. A friend of mine just said that "the IT guy" of that company did even ruin one of his routers when updating the firmware. I took my device to the tech support, and the guy said that Belkin devices are not compatible with their network (read their network is not ready) and he does not know why.
Because there are too many people around having the same problem, I thought there must be a fix known to people.

btw thanks a lot.

Wish I could be of more help but if they're having issues with Belkin (or any other brand of hardware) and they know it, then there's really nothing I, or anybody else, could do. It sounds like their people don't really know what they're doing and should consider hiring a consultant who does to get them up to speed.

If it were me, I would try another brand like Linksys or D-Link and see if it worked. But until they get their s**t together and get their network working properly (ie: with all hardware) then you're pretty much stuck with regard to the Belkin device.

Good luck and I hope you get working properly soon.
