Solved Belkin AC900 DB router won't connect to the internet

February 20, 2014 at 22:57:36
Specs: Windows Vista
Hello,

I have an issue with my Belkin AC900 DB router not connecting to the internet. I called tech support at Comcast an hour ago because I upgraded my internet service from 3mbps to 25mbps and it wasn't faster than 3mbps. The tech got my internet speed working when I connected it Ethernet cable from the router to my laptop but when she got off the phone and I tried to re-connect the Ethernet to the router, the indicator light refuses to blink anything but red.

I unplugged the power and Ethernet but that seems to do nothing. Please help! Is my router fried? Or is it something that can be fixed? By the way, my router is less than two years old.

Please respond, thanks!

~Charity

Hi Peet100,

I have cable and you surprisingly guessed the right model! I fiddled with my router till late last night and it still was amber orange/red. But surprisingly this morning it was blue. I guess it just needed time to reconfigure itself or something. Thanks for trying to help me problem-solve :)

I'm tempted to blame your router as they are notoriously unreliable whatever the brand, unless you buy one of the really expensive ones like those branded "Billion" models.

My Netgear worked flawlessly for 2.5 years and than it just wouldn't connect. New router connected straight away but that failed too after just 6 months.

Then BT sent me a free one, that lasted a month.

Current Netgear is working fine after 3 months use and still okay, but If it failed tomorrow I wouldn't be surprised, so I have two new ones still boxed, as backup.

Heat is usually the culprit, especially with routers that can't be stood vertically. The heat damages the components gradually over time.
May take weeks, months or a few years.

Thanks for responding Phil22,

I was chatting with the tech support guy from Belkin and I seemed to go nowhere. He siad he didn't think the hardware is the problem. He said I needed to connect the ethernet to from the modem to the router, then plug another one into my laptop, then run the setup disc. The router didn't come with another ethernet so I got confused. Ultimately, there's nothing he can do. Its so frustrating.

I'm sorry you are having such bad problems with your routers. That sucks. I guess I'll have to buy a new router and see if that fixes the problem.

Thank you for your help :)

Are you on cable or DSL?

If this is what you have? (Manual for F9K117 AC900 )
http://cache-www.belkin.com/support...

If this is your exact model, it looks as though it's a router-only. If so, it needs to be connected to a separate modem. You have a separate modem - yes/no?
No mention of a red light in the Belkin manual , but a blinking amber light indicates that it can't detect the modem.

If a separate modem; what make is the modem and what do the modem lights indicate?
Is the modem plugged in and connected properly?

"this morning it was blue"
Does that mean it is now working?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
