Solved Are Modem Cards still relevant?

Specs: None Currently, AMD athlon 4 900
I have this old HP and there is a card on the bottom of it I always wondered what it was, and I figured out that it is a Modem Card. My question is, does this computer need this card to connect to the internet via Ethernet? There is not munch information on this old tech and it would be nice to know if I can remove it to save room and power in it.

Modem cards were used to send faxes over telephone lines (POTS) AND to connect to internet in the 90's and perhaps 2000's. (some remote residents may still connect over the phone lines as the only possible way)
If you are connecting to Internet over Ethernet, and have no need of telephone services (fax?), it is save to discard the modem card.
Make sure you turn off the PC (remove AC plug) before removing the card.

I only need it to connect to the internet, faxing with the computer would be slow and kinda pointless. Thank you for the information.

You didn't state if you're asking about a laptop or desktop. Regardless, it certainly doesn't hurt to leave the card in place. If you're sure you don't need it & won't ever use it for faxing or setting up an answering system or as an emergency backup to access the internet, you can remove it. Be sure to uninstall the drivers.
