Specs: Windows xo, 1222
I have a wired network domain that consist of win 2003 DC's and a win 2000 dhcp server and xp clients.
I have a laptop that is not on this domain at all, i do not want to join this laptop to the domain, but on this laptop i have VMware server running with an xp as a guest virtual pc. I want to join this xp guest virtual pc to the wired network domain. The NIC for this virtual pc is setup as bridged, when i go into properties to change the virtual pc to join the domain, it does not let me. I plug in a rj45 cable into the laptop and into the switch, why can i not get this virtual xp to join the domain??

Can your virtual XP box ping your domain controller? If so, make sure your virtual XP box is setup to use the DC as it's DNS server.

Also, another thing. Make sure the time on your XP VM is the same as your DC. There is only a 5 minute (I think) margin of error allowed.

I plug my laptop running XP into the switch with an RJ45 (the DHCP server is giving the laptop a valid ip address from its scope), then I fire up the vmware server web access, and get the guest winXP virtual pc running. (I have 2 guest OS's installed - an XP and Ubuntu).

I go to the guest virtual XP properties to change it to join the tbone.local domain, but its not finding the DC. The XP guest has its NIC setup as bridged.

Am i doing this correct?
Do i join the actual laptop to the domain? I don't want to, i want to join the guest win XP virtual pc to the domain only.
