Accessing Network File

April 25, 2009 at 23:29:43
Specs: Windows XP
I have just connected two home computers via a wireless network. On the compaq, when I click "view workgroup computers" I can see the other computer. But when I double click the icon to access it, a dialog box comes up asking for user name and password. I don't know what to enter here to access the other computer. I have tried the user name associated with both of the computers. That doesn't work, and neither user name has an affiliated password anyhow. How do I gain access?

PS: The other computer can access (using Vista) can access my shared folders. I have not encountered a similar dialog box in accessing shared folders from that other computer.

Most likely you shared file with user/group permission, you should only use simple file sharing if do not wish to see that prompt.
