Specs: Windows XP
I am looking for recommendations on a program that will let me access my 85 year old father-in-laws desktop (Vista) from my home computer (XP) when he accidentally gets into trouble as he has very limited tech skills and questionable mouse control.

CrossLoop is free and easy to use here http://www.crossloop.com/ipage.htm?... Download and install it on both machines. When you run the program you can bypass the registration by clicking Skip. The two options are:

1. Access, which allows you to control the other computer. The other user needs to tell you the Access Code to connect.
2. Share, where you give the other user your Access Code so that your computer can be accessed.

One of the best solutions I've found is: TeamViewer

I use it to access my 74 yr old father's PC whenever he has trouble. It's easier to setup and use than Remote Desktop and one of the safest ways to remote I've yet to see.
