Asus Laptop with intel pentium processor...

Specs: Windows XP, 4GB
Hello there

I have a computer with windows 2003 server installed on it. There is one shared folder. The computer's name is SERVER. The shared folder's name is OFFICE.
Whenever I type \\SERVER\OFFICE in a windows explorer window, I get a pop up window with a message that says that Windows does not find \\SERVER\OFFICE.

How can I fix this?
I mean, I should be able to see the folder in this way because this OFFICE folder is shared and I am doing this from the same computer and not from another computer in the LAN.
Any idea?
Thanks

You have to give Domain Users rights to the folder. Right click the folder -> go to properties -> security -> Click add user. Add the Domain users and even Domain Admins to the security and give them the rights they need. Don't forget you may have to turn off inheritance if this folder exists inside of another share.

2003 server doesn't always mean its running active directory.

Simplist share is to everyone with full control and no limits. Start there successfully then you can pare down rights as needed.

I would like to add that suddenly and without apparent reason the icon that indicates that the folder is shared disappeared. I cliked right on the folder to search for the share option in the corresponding menu but did not find the sharing option.
How do I reshare the folder again?
Thanks

go to computer mangement and shared folders. Is it listed?

if not you would create the share the same way you did the first time... which makes me question why you are asking how to create a share????

When I went to computer management and shared folders like you said, I cliked the shared resources link in the corresponding tree on the left side of the window. And I got a pop up message like: "error when reading the list of shared resources from Windows' clients. Error number 2114: the server has not been started"
And as for your question, that share was created by someone else the first time.
Any idea?
Thanks
