Specs: Windows 7
How do I set up a home network between Win7 (my new computer) and WinXP (the girlfriend's laptop)? I am completley new to this and have no networking knowledge/experience outside of being able to set up my wireless router. Any help would be greatly appreicated!!

i did do a search for home networking and i got 7000 links

1/4 different situations different than mine
1/4 technical terms etc that go beyond my expertise
1/2 adds

i came here to ask because in the past when i needed help this website always had someone who answered my question.

that site did not provide much help either. i followed links that sounded similar to the situation i am in and it led to simply more links adds and posts of other people asking different questions

Yep you are right, lousy link.

Assuming the two of you are linked to the wireless router for internet access you need to do the following.

Both join the same workgroup like MSHOME
Enable file and print sharing
Check the windows firewall to assure it allows file and print sharing [it should be automatic when enabling file and print sharing]
Share a folder [not the entire drive] on each

Reboot and see if you can see each other in the network

(copypasta from a new thread i just made incase anyone is still following)

okay, i did a good job to my girlfriend's laptop
normally looking at the computer name area it is set to domain
when she turns on her computer her student number is there and she has to type in her password, no problem.
taking advice from another post, i switched it to workgroup to set up some home networking (figuring i can set it back anytime i want). it asked for a username/password to 'authorize' the change, so i tried the good ol'
username: admin
and it worked no problem. now after rebooting it is not accepting her password, admin/[blank] does not work, and i'm 100% stuck on the 'press ctrl-alt-del to login' screen?

am i screwed or is there a way around this?
