1 computer, 2 NICs, 1 upload 1 download?

Specs: Windows XP, 2.6Ghz DC/ 4 gb
I have heard rumored that you can install two NICs in a PC and set them up to only run upload or download. I am using a broadband router. If I could connect them both and have two connections that my system would utilize, that would work too. Basically, I have the extra hardware and am hoping to boost my transfer rates. Any ideas?

I don't think this is possible and in any case you wouldn't gain anything. Your upload and download performance will be determined by your internet connection which will typically be much slower than your network card.

what is described is called adapter teaming and usually is only done with servers since it requires a managed switch that supports one of the teaming protocols.

This would give you better lan access but would make no difference to your internet access.

The weak link is you ISP, they only give you so much speed and whatever you do will not alter that....
