salvage delete folder

Specs: novel 5.1, Xeon
NetWare Gurus,
A user created a folder on a Novell NetWare 5 network drive this morning
and added a bunch of files to the folder. The folder and its contents
were inadvertently deleted and need to be salvaged. The salvage utility
in ConsoleOne v.1.3.6d and NetWare Administrator v.5.1.9f listed only
salvageable files but no folders. Can anyone suggest a utility that can
recover the deleted folder(with the folder tree structure) and its contents.
Thanks for your help.

No way, because Netware did not store folder informations of deleted files.
You have to salvage the files and the user has to create new folders and put the files into them.
Just bad luck.

Actually, Netware retains salvagable information for deleted folders in the same way it stores deleted files. You must check if the purge immediate flag is set on the volume or within that directory branch. If it is, then nothing is salvageable.

In nwadmin, open the root of the volume,. click on tools, and salvage. Under source, change from "current dirctory" to from "deleted directories". Then search. Any files restored from here will be in their actual directory structure but located in the the deleted.sav folder. You can then restore files without overwriting newer ones.

You can also use the tool Filer.exe in your public directory to accomplish the same thing.

This worked like a charm and saved my end user from heart failure due to his deleting an entire directory last week. AND, I look the hero - what could be better?
EXCELLENT post. Thanks much.
