Novell on Vmware - need to copy to new server

March 7, 2011 at 09:01:28
Specs: Windows XP
I have a server running VMware, on the VMware is an old accounting type of software, this company runs on this software, the server has a serious problem and i am trying to copy the VMware to another server, so i can remove the server to fix it,
i do not have any "floppies" of Novell, Can anyone tell me :

A. if i use the clone option in VMware to copy this to a new server, will i bring the license for Novell over, .. i am not even sure if i can clone this over without server #2 having Novell installed
B: or should i setup server2, install VMware GSX server V 3.2.0 , find a license somehow for the Novell V 312 then do a restore from Tape backups to server2

I absolutely need to get server2 up and running VMware with the Novell as the OS and get this Application running and fast.. the server its running on is living on borrowed time.

You can clone the novell server and don't need to get a new license.
The license is stored in the server.exe file on the DOS partition of the netware server.

After restoring the clone image into VMware, you have to change several settings and have to install additional things, to get it to run.
It's not even an easy job and needs a lot of googling, downloading, installing and testing.

Serveral years ago, I managed exactly such a problem for a company and it's now running for years.
But can't remember what additional things must be installed and where to find them.
