I cannot login to Netware with Client 2 SP1

Novell Netware v.6.5 - upgrade license
January 19, 2011 at 17:20:00
Specs: Windows 7
We have a Netware 6.5 SBS SP3 server. Just introduced a Win7 desktop to the environment. Installed Netware Client 2 SP1 and when I try to login in it can't find the tree, context or server. I have tried the server IP address in various combinations in the tree, context and server boxes, no go. Also, I cannot login to the Windows desktop after failing the Netware login. It tells me the username and/or password are incorrect. I then have to login in safe mode and to do my research. The only fix to get me back to the desktop is to restore to the pre-Client restore point. I have turned off virus software and firewall (MacAfee Internet security). I patched the SLPTCP.NLM on the sever. We have a Cisco gateway acting as the DHCP server. I tried static IPs on the Win7 workstation, but that didn't work either. Any more ideas? I am desperate-- I've been try to get this workstation working since Monday!

First of all, did you get a valid ip address for your windows 7 workstation?
Disabling McAfee Internet Security might not be the trick.
Better uninstall it and try connecting to your novell server.
You might have to use a removal tool, to successfully remove the McAfee Security Suite, even if you don't get any errors on uninstalling it.

Yes, I get a valid IP. Also, I originally uninstalled McAfee but that didn't help. I put it back on because she is using the system for email for now and she gets a lot of iffy mail. I can try removing it again with a removal tool. Thanks for your help!

Yes, McAfee as well as Norton mostly have to be uninstalled by using their removal tools.
Especially suites, including firewalls or antivirus wth firewall functionallity, have to be uninstalled with the removal tools.

Hi again. I uninstalled McAfee and ran their removal tool but it has made no difference in the problem. I also brought my own Windows 7 notebook into the environment, installed the client and my system can't find the tree, context or server either, but does allow me to login to my Windows desktop. Any more ideas? Thanks!

If you login locally to your windows 7 machine first and you wait until everything is loaded completely (all the systray thngs a.s.o.), then, rightclick the red N and choose Novell Login, are you able to find server and tree?

If yes, you might try this:
Run gpedit.msc and you will find the policy under Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - System - Logon - Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon.

It won't let me login locally at the one workstation at all unless I go login in safe mode and remove the Netware Client. I will try it on my laptop, where I can login to Win7 to see if I can then fine the tree and server. This won't happen until next week though, now. Thanks for all you suggestions.
