Yes it is possible.. but nothing to be concerned about.

Has something happened or are you just worried?

Also, how does this relate to Novell Netware?

Hey micka,

It's a long story. I want to know what can that person know if he knows my IP adress?

He told me that he's going to visit me, but he doesn't know my home adress

Is it possible to know it from my IP adress?

Without getting too complex in networking.. no not really.

I'm assuming you don't have a registered IP address and just get whatever IP your ISP gives to you via DHCP. This will be a private IP address - 192.168.x.x or something like that. Almost every home internet user has this IP address.

You can goto start > run > cmd > type "ipconfig" and it will tell you the IP address.

Idiots that don't know anything about networking and call themselves "hackers" use these threats without knowing the complexities and security of IP addresses.

Let me know if this makes sense.

P.S. you have posted this under Novell Netware thread.

Micka, thank you for urgent answers!

I did what you advise me and get the same IP adress which I checked in on website: whatismyipadress.com

If the person knows the IP adress can he know the internet provider which I'm using? There're several internet providers in my country and one more question? If I change my internet provider will be the IP adress the same? I mean I can't change it yes?To easy understand me I have to explain how the internet providers work in my country: i have a dlink internet but I'm registrated in provider base by my home telephone number. That's why I'm affraid may be he really knows my home adress? Because the home telephone number is registrated on my home adress.

Sorry for stupid questions, but I am not educated in this field :)

I don't understand what you mean about "Novell Netware thread"? You mean I didn't name the topic right name?

Someone probably could track it down to which ISP you have. After that the ISP "clouds" your IP by giving you a private IP.

IP addresses are delivered via DHCP. Unless you have specifically requested for a static IP address they will give you a random dynamic address from a pool of IP's so your IP address will change and won't record this info linking to your account.

Even then, the ISP can really only know which MAC address is connected. Each MAC address is unique for each network card but they do not have a listing of your MAC address.

So in short.. I wouldn't worry too much. If you are still concerned increase your security.

Depends on the threat you are trying secure yourself against.

If its a virtual threat - Like a virus or someone getting into your network. Then get an Anti-virus/security software.

If its a physical threat - Get a guard dog ect lol.
