working without a word work file and memory i

April 14, 2011 at 05:35:54
Specs: Macintosh
When I try to open Windows on my Mac, I get this message: "Working without a word work file and memory is nearly full."
If I click "ok" I then get this message: "cannot open existing global template."
I can't get into word at all -- everything shows up in the toolbar, but nothing is highlighted and I can't click on anything. I can't even get into a file going into spotlight.
I use this for my business, so I would really appreciate any suggestions you might have so I can get into my documents.
Thank you!

Welcome to Computing.net!

First of all, it sounds like your Office installation (Windows is an operating system) has gone corrupt. Rather than trying to diagnose what appears to be multiple problems with your software, you need to reinstall Office yourself, or, if managed by your workplace, ask if Office can be reinstalled on your machine.

If you want to try out different alternatives, Apple iWork is a powerful alternative to Office, not only opening Office documents, but making vast improvements to how office suite software should be in general. Check to see if Pages is installed--as it will do the same thing as Word, or purchase it.

Lastly, this one is free (and open)--TextEdit. This little notepad app is much more than that. Capable of saving Word XML files, this editor sets tabs, checks the spelling, and allows some advanced formatting. You can use Spotlight to open it, or go to Applications, where it will be waiting patiently.

Any one of these solutions should solve the problem. Thank you for allowing me to assist you; if you need more help, let me know.
